P1 Wimax Speed Test

Today, I got my P1 Wimax box delivered to home (Pandan Perdana). I subscribed the cheapest package: RM49 monthly with 400kbps download and 150kbps upload.
The package's duration is 2 years contract, which means RM229 cancellation fee within these 24 months. If I am not happy with the service, I can return within 7 days with RM100 refund, or stick with it for 24 months.

So this is my critical 7 days. I gonna note down the speed everyday (try if i can do it twice a day):

P1 Wimax Speed Test (Malaysia)

Seems still ok, but upload speed is not even half of its plan!!

speedtest.net Speed Test (Oversea)

Bandwidth test from oversea seems better than expectation on download, but much worse on upload and latency.

Ping test (destination: Asiasoft SuddenAttack WebSite)

The server is hosted in one of the most expensive data centre at Central KL. The latency speed is general ok, but not stable. And drop packets is quite shocking as well. Man, my home just 3km from Central KL!

Conclusion (09/01/2009):
The box show the Wimax signal is weak all the time, and I experienced a line drop just now! If the download speed can be persistent like today, I will consider keeping it. Let see how tomorrow!

10-01-2010

After a night of observation and casual download, I found out:

  1. Wimax signal never get better (always on weak).
  2. Constant disconnect every 5 mins (not getting better during night or late night)
  3. Download speed is so slow (Not even a single youtube could be finished downloaded)
Sorry i didn't bother to continue the test! It is total unacceptable and I can't expect it to be better during the coming 2 years contract.

Thus, i took it to Jalan Templar P1 Wimax HQ to return it next monday. The service centre is well decorated and the service is good. I got my checque immediately and seems the receptionist is get used to modem return. He said it need some time for the service to get better. I was wondering, "After years and you still can't extend service to my area, which is 10km from your HQ and 3km from KL city centre?", laughing in my heart.
